Routine breast and pelvic examinations are unnecessary.

The CSM (Committee on Safety of Medicines) has concluded that routine breast and pelvic examinations are not necessary in the routine management of women taking HRT, unless clinically indicated. It remains important, however, to teach and encourage breast awareness. In addition women should be encouraged to attend for routine mammograms (offered 3 yearly to women between 50 and 64, and on request up to 69) and for cervical smears as per local policy.
